A wind generation transformer connects the wind turbine generator to the collector grid — stepping up the generator output voltage to the grid injection level for efficient long-distance transmission with minimal losses.

Wind turbines generate electricity at low voltage (typically 690V or 1000V) - the transformer primary winding receives this through the nacelle or tower-base connection point.

The alternating current creates magnetic flux in the CRGO silicon steel core - grain-oriented steel minimises core losses even under the variable generation cycles unique to wind energy.
